A person is regarded as having Low Vision or Visual Impairment when their sight can no longer be successfully corrected with glasses or contact lenses, or by any medical or surgical treatment.

We offer a specialised Low Vision Service, either through our contract with South East Hampshire NHS, or as part of an extended eye examination.  We welcome referrals from GPs and other optometric practices. A full assessment, including refraction if required, is carried out to determine which aspects of vision are posing the greatest difficulty to you, and which optical aids such as magnifiers and telescopes would be of most benefit. Please bring your own spectacles and any existing magnifiers, plus any examples of tasks that you are finding hard to see.

We stock an extensive range of low vision aids which include magnifiers, binocular TV spectacles and electronic aids. Below you will find information on the most common types of magnifier.
Electronic Magnifiers

Provide the highest levels of magnification and help to enhance the contrast of objects being viewed.

Hand Magnifiers

Designed for short-term spotting tasks of near objects such as reading menus, price tags and pill bottles. These helpful devices are very portable, versatile and economical and are available with and without light sources.
